The number of inches in a foot has been increased from 12 to 14. The move is designed to pander to the shoe industry which is worried about the increasing size of feet. The change means that a size 9 shoe will now be a size 7 and a size 5 will become a size 3.
If people would move the metric system, we wouldn't have all this fuss, said Dr Bunz Aphaire of the International Institution of Units and Tings. In cm, the average foot is actually getting smaller, which would allow us to keep shoe sizes the same by standing closer.
